Fad Diets: The Role of Plant Foods In Popular Diets

Dr. Michael Wargovich and Chef Iverson Brownell returned to the Garden. Dr. Wargovich discussed various fad diets from a scientific perspective. Chef Iverson prepared a pescatarian and a vegan dish to show just how easy it is to make meals more flavorful and anti-inflammatory regardless of the "diet" . A tasting followed - delicious!

Are popular diets healthy? Dr. Wargovich compared popular and fad diets, such as vegan, paleo, pescatarian, gluten free, etc., from a scientific perspective. Topics included weight loss, health benefits and health risks. Chef Iverson showed how to give any dish an anti-inflammatory twist. Attendees sampled two easy and delicious vegan and pescatarian dishes.

As part of the Silver Solutions information and resource fair hosted by Texas Public Radio, Dr. Wargovich and Chef Iverson presented “Keeping Chronic Inflammation from Ruining Your Health: A Culinary Intervention”. The fair was for seniors, their families and caregivers and provided useful and interesting information and suggestions for living long and aging strong.

In their consulting role, Chef Iverson and Dr. Wargovich incorporated anti-inflammatory food science into the menu and recipes for the ThriveWell Cancer Foundation Annual Fundraising Luncheon. This is CanSurvive Cuisine’s fourth year working with ThriveWell to create a beautiful, delicious, health promoting and innovative luncheon meal. This year's fundraiser highlighted ThriveWell's impact on the fight against breast cancer.
